Kara Henry
Kara grew up in Elmhurst, Illinois where, believe it or not, cross country is king. She was a member of the York Community High School cross country and track teams, known nationwide as the most successful high school program in US history (in any sport). Needless to say, York High School was an amazing environment to learn and grow in the sport of running. Kara was a part of her high school state championship cross country team, state champion 4×800 meter relay team, and earned multiple all-state honors.
After an exciting high school career, Kara went on to run for Butler University. At Butler, Kara specialized in the 3,000meter steeplechase. She earned all-conference honors in cross country and track as well as qualifying for the NCAA Cross Country Championships and the NCAA Track and Field Regional meet.
With her degree finished at Butler, Kara had one year of NCAA eligibility left. She decided to mix things up with a year at the University of New Mexico. At UNM, she broke the school record in the 3,000meter steeplechase and earned a runner-up finish in the 5,000m run at the Mountain West Conference Championships.
While she enjoys shorter distances, Kara’s main focus is now on longer distances. She stepped into the ultra running world with a win and course record at her first 50 miler and ran the Leadville 100 this past August, only to turn around and start training for a road marathon.
Kara is currently the Marketing Manager at Newton Running and is excited about the opportunity to work and race for such a supportive and energetic company.
