Fernando Cabada

Fernando Cabada holds the 25 km American Record (1:14.21), and has been three-time US Champion. Born in Fresno, California Fernando attended Virginia Intermont College where he achieved 7 NAIA National Championship titles.

Fernando moved to Boulder, Colorado five years ago where he works and trains. Boulder being his home now, he wanted represent home with pride and has found Newton Running shoes a great fit for his high mileage and fast pace.

Running and racing across the US and outside, Fernando has built up mileage and experience. His short term goals include a new marathon personal best of sub 2:10 – his actual is 2:11.53, obtained at the 2012 Olympic Trials where he was 7th. But he has already set his mind on being part of the USA Team at the 2013 World Track and Field Championships in Moscow, Russia.

His strength comes from hard work, focus and a proven capacity to overcome since childhood all the circumstances, inspired by his family and his dreams. Fernando’s determination to compete at a global level is clear from his post race interview quote after his 25K American record setting performance.

“I have the attitude. I’m not afraid of anyone. I tried to break (the Kenyans). I looked at their faces. I thought they were weak, so I pushed them, tested them. Then, one by one, I ran away from them.”
