Mind and Body Don’t Always Work Together
It’s already July of 2012! The year is flying by, and the racing season half over. It’s no wonder that once I get a sweet sponsorship, I have one of the worst and most difficult running seasons I’ve ever had. I came off a great year last year making gains in strength and speed over the course of 8 months, only to come into 2012 over trained and fighting injury. I knew after Rock n’ Roll Phoenix I needed to take a break when my time fell short 10 minutes off my PR. I pulled back, ran less and tried to heal up. But I guess it takes a lot more than just a few...

Remember when I said I had no excuses for my last race “Platte Half Marathon,” because it was flat and fast. Well, I ended up not showing up that day?? Physically I was there, but head and my legs were not very excited about participating. I went out fast, too fast, with my first mile being right around 6 minutes. For the next 5 miles another female runner and myself were having an intense cat and dog chase game, and my quads were already burning. Not good with 8 miles to go. Could it be that it’s the first race of the season so my nerves shoot me out off the start line and I hit the mile 1 and 2 hills a little too hard? Felt like it this year as my quads were burning as if they were on a leg press...

You can’t even imagine how thrilled I was when I received an email from Newton’s Stephen Gartside, inviting me to become a member of such an elite Colorado running team. As I sit in the first Team Alchemy meeting all I can think is “holy cow, I am way out of my league.” My teammates clock some serious times, and have won some of the most prestigious events. I start to feel overwhelmed, and have to tell myself that I’m sitting with this group because I too have a few ”W’s” under my belt, and I often forget how far I’ve come...
